The effervescent Eleri Brady is Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support for North Wales and North Powys! Last year, Coleg Cambria selected Macmillan Cancer Support as their chosen charity. Eleri spent the year working closely with staff and students at the college developing fund-raising activities. In her blog Eleri writes about some of her highlights from the fun-packed year!
Firstly a huge well done to staff and students at Coleg Cambria – they’ve raised an amazing £88,632!
Twelve months ago Coleg Cambria had chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Support during their academic year 2015/2016
Coleg Cambria is the third largest college in Wales and serves three local authority areas: Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire and has five sites in North East Wales.
The college’s first event was The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, I’ve never seen so many cakes that were on sale in Deeside’s main foyer. I talked to a number of staff and students who were so enthusiastic about the event and enjoyed being part of it. I think we sold the last cake at 3pm!
The college took part in many events including supermarket bag packing, sponsored walks and auctions.
The highlight of the year was 29th February when the staff and students took part in Go Green Day where they held a number of activities across the five sites, students in Wrexham also took part in flash mobs and held a street collection in the town.
They even attempted a World record of the most people in the shape of a coffee cup!
Alex Thomas, Head of Sixth form completed the London Marathon raising thousands of pounds. I think staff and students enjoyed throwing water at him in stocks a few days before the marathon
I want to thank the staff and students of Coleg Cambria for the passion an energy in all their fundraising activities, It has been a pleasure being part of it.
